Dr. Thanos Askitis

Professor of Psychiatry - Sexologist
Bio:

Dr. Thanos E. Askitis is a graduate of the Medical School of the University of Athens, specializing in Neurology and Psychiatry. He specialized in postgraduate studies in the United States of America (New York University) in the field of social psychiatry, human behavior and interpersonal relationships. He trained as a therapist of interpersonal relationships and human sexuality. In 1986 he returned to Greece where he exercised clinical Psychiatry and Behavioral Psychotherapy, while maintaining a strong presence in the media, with articles in the print media and frequent television appearances. In fact, from 1993 to 2003 he hosted a show about medical topics on ERT1, with great social impact. Meanwhile, from 1994 until today, he is the Director of the Institute of Mental and Sexual Health, undertaking a variety of incidents and he is also active in politics, not only during his three-year term as Member of Parliament but also by cooperating with the Ministries of Education of Greece and Cyprus. In 2018 he was elected Professor of Psychiatry at the European University of Cyprus (E.U.C) in the field of Social Psychiatry. He has been a regular member of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association since 1985, a full member of the Hellenic Psychiatric Association and an International Member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA). In addition, he is a member of the European Medical Sexological Society (ESSM) and the International Medical Sexological Society (ISSM). Finally, it is noteworthy that in 2012 his birthplace, Chios, proclaimed him an Honorary Citizen of the city where he was born.
